Gender and Equal Opportunities Observatory

As the first mechanism is devoted to the observation and analysis of gender disparities in Tunisia, Gender and Equal Opportunities Observatory, set up at CREDIF in 1993 so-called “Observatory on Women’s Status”, has anticipated the production of gender indicators by enhancing the producers of national statistics to disseminate, sectoral date by sex. The Observatory has also pointed out the different aspects of women’s status through the publication of its annual reports.

In 2012, this mechanism was reinvigorated in terms of its institutional structure and its quantitative and qualitative observation approaches, focusing on priority themes, in this case violence against women, which was the subject of the first set of specific indicators at the national level.

The Observatory provides data to researchers, national and international authorities, governmental and non-governmental actors, contributing to the dissemination of statistical culture through the publication of “OGEC Newsletter”.
