Historical Overview
-
Since its independence on 20 March 1956, Tunisia has made tireless efforts to promote the status and rights of women and to strengthen their role in society and in the different fields of life. The Personal Status Code (CSP), enacted on 13 august 1956, amended repeatedly and reinforced by the reforms of 1993, has established a solid legal platform that has placed women at the core of the human development strategy, implemented the foundations of the rule of law and institutions, and enhanced women from the rank of equality to that of partner acting in the development of the present and in building the Republic of tomorrow.
It is in its realization of the sincere political will and the reformist societal project that the Center for Research, Studies, Documentation and Information on Women (CREDIF), was created with the mission of becoming a reference institution in terms of improving the status of women and intensifying the participation of the female element in the development action, as well as an effective mechanism in the realization of the state policy in the field of the promotion of women.
This center has become a pole specialized in social gender issues. In fact, it becomes within a very short period and thanks to many activities, important programs and in-depth studies, it has managed to acquire a great influence at the national and international levels, which has made it a specialized space for the treatment of women’s problems and equal opportunities between sexes.
